Description

Modern bikefitting practices have found that there are many riders who require either a wider or a narrower stance width than what is available from standard cleats. The benefits to those riders include:

  • Better and more direct power transfer through the pedals
  • Better foot contact with the base of the shoe and pedal
  • A potential reduction or elimination of medial or lateral knee pain
  • Moving the shoe away from the bike to avoid hitting the frame with the heel

The ML9 is for riders who require a wider or narrower stance width (or Q-factor) due to their physiology. This includes larger riders who typically have a V-twin pedalling stroke or smaller riders whose feet are forced out wider than is natural. Establishing a better foot position relative to the knee can improve power production, proprioception and help medial or lateral knee issues.

Note: The ML9 loses the last 3mm of rearward plate adjustment compared with a standard Speedplay base plate. Use this plate only if you have enough rearward adjustment available on your shoe.

Technical info

The ML9 is a plate aimed purely at medial or lateral adjustment and provides up to 9mm of additional sideways adjustment compared with a standard Speedplay base plate. Using this plate is a smart way for larger or smaller riders to increase or reduce their stance width on the bike. The plate has two sets of cleat attachment holes, one in the standard position and one in the medial/lateral position.

Pack includes:

  • 3X LEFT IN / RIGHT OUT
  • 3X RIGHT IN / LEFT OUT
  • Shoe & cleat screws

(these plates are also available as a single kit)

*Please note:

  • These plates are designed to use Torx countersunk screws (provided). Using any other screws could produce compromised results.
  • In some configurations minor trimming of the blue Speedplay wedges might be necessary to achieve maximum rearward adjustment. This is easily done with a craft knife, drill, or both. Please check picture gallery or get in touch for more info.
