Description

Modern bikefitting practices are moving strongly towards increased cleat range of adjustment for many important reasons. These include the need of some riders for additional medial or lateral positioning, and in many cases a more rearward cleat position.

Medial & lateral adjustment benefits:

Better and more direct power transfer through the pedals

Better foot contact with the base of the shoe and pedal

A potential reduction or elimination of medial or lateral knee pain

Moving the shoe away from the bike to avoid hitting the frame with the heel

Rearward positioning benefits:

It reduces the foot's "lever" effect making the foot more stable over the pedals

It will reduce demand on the ankle and calf muscles which is highly beneficial for endurance cycling

It can reduce or eliminate hot foot by moving pressure point away from the pedal spindle

Useful if your existing cleat holes are located too far forward on the shoe and don't allow you to position your cleats in the "modern standard" position

The FORM Speedplay extender plates offer riders extra adjustability outside the range of the standard Speedplay base plate. This includes rearward adjustment, medial adjustment or lateral adjustment. With three plate options to choose from there are multiple configurations for you to explore.

Technical info

The MLR618 is FORM's most versatile extender plate, offering up to 18mm of additional rearward adjustment combined with up to 6mm of additional medial or lateral adjustment, compared with a standard Speedplay base plate. The plate has three sets of cleat attachment holes, one in the standard position, one in the rearward position and one in the rearward/medial/lateral position.

Pack includes:

  • 3X LEFT IN / RIGHT OUT
  • 3X RIGHT IN / LEFT OUT
  • Shoe & cleat screws

(these plates are also available as a single kit)

*Please note:

  • These plates are designed to use Torx countersunk screws (provided). Using any other screws could produce compromised results.
  • In some configurations minor trimming of the blue Speedplay wedges might be necessary to achieve maximum rearward adjustment. This is easily done with a craft knife, drill, or both. Please check picture gallery or get in touch for more info.
